Unit 1 Can you play the guitar?

Period 1

Teaching aims:

1、New words and expressions: dance, swim, sing, play chess, paint, speak English, play the guitar, art, music, join

2、Aims of ability: Have students learn to express personal abilities and talk about personal likes and wishes。

Teaching important and difficult points: What club do you want to join? I want to join the music club。Can you / she sing ? Yes, I can。 / No, she cant。

Teaching method: Task-based language teaching、create the language situation。

Teaching steps:

Step 1 Revision and lead in

Show students a picture of a basketball and say I like basketball。 Then asks: Do you like basketball? I want to join a basketball club 。What is a basketball club? Have students give the answer in Chinese。Do you want to join a basketball club?

Step 2 Presentation

Ask the students to look at the pictures of Page 1 , Let’s look at the clubs。 What are they? They are art club, English club, chess club, swimming club and music club。 What club do you want to join? Help the students to answer I want to join the art club。 Then give a picture of art club to the student。The teacher writes What club do you want to join? I want to join… on the blackboard。 Ask the students to practice it in pairs。

Step 3 Practice

Show students pictures of dance, swim, play chess, paint, speak English and play the guitar and practice like this in pairs。

Can you dance? Yes, I can。 / No, I can’t。

At the same time, the teacher write down sing, dance, swim, play

chess, paint, speak English, and play the guitar on the blackboard。 Ask the students to read after the teacher。 Then have students summarize how to use “can” by themselves。

Step 4。 A  game

To be more familiar with the words and phrases, the teacher can organize a game like this:Write the words and phrases on pieces of paper。 Ask one of the students come to the front and choose one of the paper, then do the action。 Ask other students to guess what he or she can do using Can you dance /sing/play chess? Then exchange。

Step 5 Listening

Have students finish the tasks in 1B。 Ask students to write a number(1/2/3) next to the relevant conversation they hear。

Step 6 Group work。

Tell the students that our headmaster really wants to know what your favorite clubs are, and what you  can do。
